The Facts

On Aug. 4, Say Yes to Local EMS!

The Ambulance Service proposal on the August 4th primary ballot will renew support for local ambulance service through a St. Clair County property tax millage. For about $5 per month per household, the proposal will ensure emergency care for all county residents and ensure improvements to local EMS remain in place.

When emergencies happen, they show up every time. Your support is critical to ensure they always can.

KeyFacts

  • Millage funding approved in 2022 strengthened EMS service to the community.

  • That support directly translated into broader county coverage,  expansion of local education and training programs, increased wages to attract and retain EMTs and paramedics and improved response times.

  • Thirty percent of St. Clair County is rural. Providing ambulance service in these communities is often more expensive and takes longer to reach, but is no less important!

  • The Ambulance Service proposal on the August 4th ballot would continue to financially support EMS service throughout St. Clair County and ensure improvements made can stay in place.

  • For about $5 per month per household on our annual property tax bill, we can keep ensuring emergency care for all county residents. (based on the $125,000 taxable value of a St. Clair County home).

  • Our progress:

    • Improved hiring: Added 44 new local EMS employees, reducing vacancy rate from nearly 15 percent to about 2 percent.

    • Increased retention: Local turnover rate has dropped from 11.76% in 2023 to a remarkable 3.7% in 2025.

    • Proven Educational Success: The local EMT program boasts a near-perfect pass rate (59 out of 60 students), ensuring that our recruits are the most qualified professionals on the road.

    • Faster response times: Since 2023, response times have consistently reduced, even with increased call volumes.

    • Increased efficiency: Deployed an 11th ambulance, keeping crews in designated zones to be ready to respond.
